Recently, I get asked a lot as whether we need to wear sunscreens indoor or when we are covered with a mask outdoors.
The answer to both questions is yes. When you are inside, you get ultraviolet (UV) exposure through windows. In addition, you get UV from indoor light, computer screen and cell phone. According to research from University of Technology Sydney, many types of lighting used in our homes emit small amounts of UV radiation and do not cause major harm. If you want 100% UV protection, it will be beneficial to wear light sunscreens indoors.
When we go out, many of us are wearing masks during COVID-19. Some of us may think the mask acts like a sun protection, when in fact, they give you a false sense of UV protection as most of the materials that made masks cannot block off the UV rays.
Why we are so concern about UV exposure? Many studies proved that UV rays from the sun are very harmful to the skin and are the cause of most skin cancers. Too much sun exposure causes unpleasant dark spots, skin dryness and irritation. One of the reasons our skin ages and becomes saggy is frequent exposure to ultraviolet A (UVA) /ultraviolet B (UVB) rays.
One of the effective way to protect UV is to wear UV protective cloth and a hat outdoors. In addition, applying sunscreens are another way to prevent the UV exposure.
Now we know that sunscreens are vital to your skin’s health, here are 3 must try sunscreens.
1. VIVIER Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 ml
I bought this lotion from the skincare clinic and my esthetician highly recommended the VIVIER sunscreen for daily use. This lotion is medical grade water-based facial sunscreen, that provides true broad-spectrum UVA/UVB/UVC and SPF 30 protection in a light, sheer formulation that absorbs quickly into the skin.
The texture is very thin and the colour is sheer. I like this lotion as it is very gentle and not greasy at all because it is water-based. It does not have any smell, great for sensitive skin and is super effective to protect UV.
It is a little pricey but if you want to try a medical grade sunscreen, I would highly recommend this lotion.
2. Coola Full Spectrum 360 Sun Silk Drops – Organic Face Sunscreen SPF 30
I bought this product from Sephora couple months ago. I have been looking for a vegan product for a try. Coola offers lots of skincare that contains vegan formulation and planted-based.
I tried daily application for a week and the lotion is so light and I immediately fell in love with this lotion. This lotion is available at Sephora.
3. Clarins UV 50 sunscreen
I have been using this sunscreen for more than a year. This lotion protects against the harmful effects of UV rays, free radicals, and pollution. It is very lightweight, and not greasy at all. It has a fragrance that smell good. I apply it daily and underneath my markup. It provides a higher SPF protection and broad spectrum coverage and my skin never get burn.
It is available at most beauty and pharmacy or shopper drug marts.
